MCU's Break the Pipeline Team (BTP) and the Advocacy Team of A Red Circle have teamed up to support education legislation this session with a "Testimony" Virtual Action on February 19th! MCU’s Break the Pipeline is a multi-system campaign to end criminalization, mass incarceration and supervision of black youth and adults in the education, police, and juvenile court, and prison systems by building power with families and formerly incarcerated people. A Red Circle’s Education Advocacy Coalition works to impact education policies in North County, St. Louis including punitive discipline, special school district support, student well-being, and equitable school funding.

Our key bill of interest is House Bill 1806, which prohibits the practice of zero tolerance policies or automatic disciplinary consequences without reviewing each pupil in a case by case manner in MO public schools. Passing this law would impact out of school suspensions for all grade levels AND continue the statewide #KeepKidsinClass Coalition Campaign that began 2016! The Keep Kids in Class campaign is historically a collaborative campaign of organizations in the St. Louis Region working on various discipline policies in school districts, organizing parents, and tracking school discipline data.

If you weren’t able to make it, you can watch the action through a recorded video below to hear from MCU Senior BTP Organizer Rev. Dietra Wise-Baker, MCU Leaders Carolyn Redmore and Carolyn Randazzo, Tamar Brown from the Advocacy Team of A Red Circle, and Rep. Ian Mackey of the 99th district in the #MOLeg about his HB1806 bill and his support for school children! Learn more about why they are passionate about supporting this bill and what it could mean for our youth across the state of Missouri.

Submit your testimony in support of HB1806 to show that Missourians care about protecting ALL our youth!
