Latrell Stanton

Organizer, EXPO

Cluster Focus: North STL City- Wards 11-14

Latrell Stanton was born and raised in the city of St. Louis. He is the third youngest of seven children. He has been involved in community organizing for over ten years. He started his career with MCU as a leader with EXPO StL, (Ex-incarcerated People Organizing St. Louis), a collective of impacted people working to end mass incarceration and collateral consequences once released. As lead organizer for EXPO-StL, he helped to bring awareness to the inhumane treatment of prisoners at the St. Louis jail as well as the Dismas House.

Before his time with MCU, he was lead organizer of the St. Louis Chapter of Occupy the Hood, a national organization. He led his own gardening non-profit called the FreshLife Garden Group (FLGG) that installed 17 urban gardens north of Delmar over a 3-year span. FLGG supported the locally elected school board in their efforts to regain local control of St. Louis public schools and partnered with The League of Women to host a school board candidate forum. In his spare time Latrell loves to read, write, talk, and laugh.

MCU puts faith into action by developing leaders who move their congregations, organizations and communities to change public policy for the common good.
