Since the start of Summer 2023, MCU leaders and our statewide partners have been collecting signatures from their neighbors and community throughout Missouri in support of the Missourians for Healthy Families & Fair Wages Initiative! 🗳️ This ballot initiative campaign aims to ensure that all Missouri voters have the option to voice their opinions for Earned Paid Sick Leave and Raising the Minimum Wage by getting it on the ballot this fall✊🏽! No Missourian should have to choose between their paycheck and their family's health. Learn more about this initiative and the proposed ballot language at the end of this article!

In March of this year, MCU crossed our finish line for our Part 2-The Final Blitz for our efforts alongside our state-wide partner the Missouri Organizing and Voter Engagement Collaborative (MOVE). In total since June 2023, MCU collected 26,232 signatures- 108% or 2,000 signatures over our goal!! Our signatures added to the collection efforts of our partners, has brought the campaign's total collected signatures to over 210,000- nearly double the amount needed to make the statewide ballot this fall 2024 ballot via Missouri's ballot initiative process! We are now waiting for approval and certification from the Secretary of State Office but we are very confident that we will be on a ballot this fall as we have not only hit qualification goals in each congressional district, but we have a buffer of over 1,000 valid signatures in each district.

THANK YOU to ALL our partners, members, leaders, and workers who helped to collect the necessary number of signatures to cross the finish line of Phase 1 of this campaign. After almost a year of dedicated Missourians pounding the pavement to collect support from their community, we joined all our partners on May 1st in Jefferson City to submit our collective signatures and officially launch our Phase 2 of this state-wide campaign! We are one step closer to passing #PaidSickDays and raising the minimum wage in MO this year. 👏👏👏👏 Check out pictures and media coverage from this monumental event below!

If this ballot initiative is approved by voters this fall, the petition would raise the state’s minimum wage to $13.75 beginning in January 2025 and $15 in 2026, with annual cost-of-living increases after that. It also seeks to set the minimum paid sick leave to one hour per 30 hours worked, and paid sick leave would extend to caring for family members.
