Sacred Votes: The welfare of the people shall be supreme law.

The Missouri Legislature closed on May 17 and the bills that we feared would wipe out our work on Amendment 1 and Prop B failed. That doesn’t mean our work and our votes are safe. Anti-Amendment 1 forces are gearing up for ballot initiatives that proport to “refine” even further what Amendment 1 started. Don’t fall for it! The plan is to hold on to gerrymandering for all it’s worth, to work around campaign finance restrictions but offer up zero lobby gifts as a compromise.

Demarco Davidson, the voter engagement organizer will start presenting Sacred Votes in congregations throughout the St. Louis region this summer. The goal is to knock on doors and make calls educating voters on the 2020 election and how their Amendment 1 votes may be gutted. Some legislators are saying the voters just didn’t understand what they were voting for in the first place.

How many doors did you knock on last summer? How many phone calls did you make? People went to the polls in November informed and they voted for change. And now, here we go again!

Join us on Tuesday, July 16 at 6pm at Ward Chapel AME Church, 11410 Old Halls Ferry Rd, Florissant 63033 for a couple of hours of canvassing. We’ll be talking to the neighbors about the issues that will be front and center for us all: saving Amendment 1, the school to prison pipeline, and more. We’ll train you and supply you. Come and out and meet the community!
