🌟Honoree Spotlight: Councilmember Jamie Hasemeier – MCU’s 2025 Gala

Emmaline Giles : October 3, 2025

Metropolitan Congregations United is proud to announce Councilmember Jamie Hasemeier as one of our 2025 Unsung Shero Award honorees at Ryze from the Rubble – MCU’s Gala Fundraiser!

A Journey Rooted in Faith, Family, and Justice

Jamie describes her life’s work as being deeply grounded in intuition, faith, and community. She believes our “gut feeling” is more than instinct—it is a blend of ancestral wisdom, lived experience, and the guiding presence of the Holy Spirit. This belief fuels her passion for helping individuals and communities trust themselves, one another, and God’s Spirit to find courage, confidence, and peace.

As a wife and mother of four—Clara, Peter, John, and Ruby—Jamie credits her children as the seeds of her activism. Concern for the world they would inherit inspired her to take action on issues like climate change, sustainability, and democracy. From simple practices like waste-free lunches and community recycling to parish ministry, local government, and even running for office, Jamie's path has always been about building relationships, creating community, and seeking justice. Her large family is a constant source of support and she credits her husband, Mark, with keeping her anchored and laughing.

Public Leadership, Service, & Ministry

In 2024, Jamie was elected to the Webster Groves City Council, where she now serves her friends and neighbors. She gets to weigh in on many issues, and keeps a focus on how each decision intersects with sustainability and addressing the climate crisis as a liaison to both the Architectural Review Board and the Business Development Commission. She has also been working with the Archdiocese of St. Louis as a Co-Chair of their Laudato Si Commission to activate Catholic Social Teaching to implement the many calls to action in Laudato Si', the 2015 letter about the environment from Pope Francis.

Before her election, Jamie spent two decades as an environmental advocate with deep experience in grassroots organizing and collaboration. She served five years on the Sustainability Commission, including two years as chairperson, where she helped lead the development of the city’s sustainability plan, Forever Webster Groves. Under her leadership, the Commission built partnerships across boards and commissions to make sustainability initiatives more visible, accessible, and beneficial for residents.

Jamie believes in both the power of individuals to create a healthier future and the responsibility of government to support that work. Her leadership continues to reflect that balance.

Organizing as Humility and Hope

Jamie views organizing as a lesson in humility and hope. Over the years, she has learned that true change comes not from working alone, but from building trust, curating community, and working collectively. For her, organizing is about education, empowerment, and finding common ground in the spirit of God’s radical love.

Her faith guides her to see Jesus as a radical source of love and justice, and she carries that love into her advocacy. She is inspired especially by women—past and present—who have led with courage, determination, and compassion, shaping the world with what she calls “revolutionary love.”

Why We Honor Jamie

Whether in her role as a councilmember, organizer, environmental advocate, or mother, Jamie brings moral clarity and faithful courage into every space she enters. She reminds us that justice is our north star—calling us into right relationship with one another, with Earth, and with God.

Though she humbly describes herself as “no expert,” Jamie is a trusted leader who follows her calling, consults her community, and takes bold action for a more sustainable, just, and compassionate future.

We are honored to celebrate Councilmember Jamie Hasemeier’s leadership, faith, and tireless commitment to justice at this year’s Gala.
